FlipSide guide 9/11/14: Hunter Hayes at York Fair, Star-Spangled Spectacular, Colonial Day

York Fair:
– Ventriloquist Jeff Dunham will perform 7:30 p.m. Friday at the York Fair. Country star Hunter Hayes will hit the stage 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Check for stories and recaps on the fair page. [Tickets to each show are $39 to $54]
– Maggie Rose, Canaan Smith, Austin Webb, Jana Kramer, Dakota Bradley and Sam Hunt will round out the Great Country Radio Stage tonight through Sunday. Get details about the shows. [Free]

Tonight:
Kable House Presents will kick off a new concert series tonight at Central Market, 34 W. Philadelphia St., York. Doors open at 7 p.m. Rayland Baxter takes the stage with special guest Mike McMonagle at 8 p.m. [$13]
– York College’s annual Humanities Film Series will kick off its year with a screening of “The Wizard of Oz.” The movie, released in 1939, is celebrating its 75th anniversary. Author Jay Scarfone will lead a discussion 7 tonight in Room 218 of the Humanities Center on campus, 441 Country Club Road, Spring Garden Township. He will host a question-and-answer session following the movie. [Free]
– Award-winning comedian, author, and filmmaker Mike Birbiglia will perform 7:30 tonight at the Strand Capitol Performing Arts Center, 50 N. George St., York. [$39 and $49]
– Lebanon Valley College will present the post-feminist all-female horn experience, Genghis Barbie, 7:30 tonight in Blair Music Center, 101 College Ave., Annville. [Free]

Food, fests and fairs:
– Welcome a new season with rides, games, food and more 4 to 10 p.m. today and 4 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday during the Biglerville Fall Fest, 111 S. Main St. It benefits the Biglerville Hose & Truck Co. No. 1.
Harrisburg Restaurant Week is really two weeks. It runs through Friday and Sept. 15 to 19. It features 11 restaurants serving three-course meals for $30. During the event, free parking will be available 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Friday in the River Street Garage.
The Hotel Hershey Wine and Food Festival runs Friday to Sunday at the hotel, 100 Hotel Road, Hershey. There will be several interactive wine events and the Grand Tasting on Sunday. [Must be 21 or older and have reservations; Call 717-534-8800]
The Capital City Invitational Beer Festival will feature two sessions, 2 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m., Saturday at Appalachian Brewing Co., 50 N. Cameron Street, Harrisburg. It includes craft beer, an Oktoberfest buffet and live music. [$35 in advance; $40 at the door; $15 for designated drivers]
– Swashbuckling fun sails into the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Pyrate’s Return features sword and mud fights. The faire is on the Mount Hope Estate and Winery grounds, 2775 Lebanon Road, Manheim. [Passes are $10.95 to $26.95]

On stage:
– Don’t miss the children’s musical “Charlotte’s Web” at Gettysburg Community Theatre, 49 York St., Gettysburg. It plays 7 p.m. Friday, 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. [$11]
– Franco-American duo CTBAB will perform 10 p.m. Saturday at HMAC Stage on Herr, 1110 N. Third St., Harrisburg. The April Skies, Tony Ryder and True West are also on the bill. [$5 cover]
– Granger Smith will hit the stage 7 p.m. Saturday at the Chameleon Club, 223 N. Water St., Lancaster. Other shows at the club this weekend include the End of Summer Jam and The Legendary Shack Shakers. [Tickets to see Smith are $10 to $12]

More events:
– Baltimore’s weeklong Star-Spangled Spectacular celebration of the 200th anniversary of the national anthem continues Saturday with “Star-Spangled Spectacular: Bicentennial of Our National Anthem” at Pier Six Pavilion, 731 Eastern Ave. John Lithgow and Jordin Sparks will host. Performers include the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Kristin Chenoweth, Melissa Etheridge, Little Big Town, Smokey Robinson, Kenny Rogers and Train. Gates open at 5 p.m. The show starts at 7 p.m. [$79 to $175]
– Haunted attractions are opening this weekend. Feel fear at Jason’s Woods, 99 Stehman Road, Lancaster, and Field of Screams, 191 College Ave, Mountville. [Hours and prices vary]
– Vendors of traditional crafts will line the historic district of East Berlin 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday along West King Street at Routes 234 and 194. Colonial Day will feature live entertainment and a food court.
– Attend a do-it-yourself Paint Your Own Piece workshop 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Redeux Vintage & Handmade Marketplace, 113 S. Duke St., York. [$75; includes painting supplies and more than three hours of studio time]
– Hang with man’s best friend Saturday during Dogs’ Day in the Park at Marge Goodfellow Community Park in New Freedom. The Mutt Strutt starts at 9 a.m. Enjoy food, vendors and a flea market through 4 p.m.
– Celebrate voice during Second Saturday on the Square in downtown York. Festivities include singing and storytelling 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. around Continental Square, Cherry Lane and the Market District. [Free]
– York’s Temple Guard Drill Team, which has members ranging in age from 5 to 16, has been prepping for the 2014 Drill Team & Drum Corps Championships. Take in the competition 1 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Hannah Penn K-8 School, 415 E. Boundary Ave., York. [$8 in advance; more at the door]
– Spend a Day Out with Thomas the Tank Engine and take a special train ride 9:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Saturday and 10:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Sunday at the Strasburg Railroad, Route 741 East, Lancaster County. Percy will make his debut. Additional train times will be available through Sept. 21. [$21 for those 2 and older]
– View a variety of art exhibits 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday during the 26th Annual Gallery Walk. Visitors should start the tour at the Art Association of Harrisburg, 21 N. Front St., Harrisburg. Thirty-one galleries and studios will welcome visitors with original art, live music and refreshments.
